Self contemplation is not an easy undertaking. When we feel lost in the fog, considering our roots and early paths can return us to where we endeavour to be.

Returning to favourite spots along the fields, we at first may not see significant changes over the years. The astute observer can remember that special shady spots are no longer, and the new growth has not yet had the chance to fill in the gaps.

Tucked away in a idyllic corner of the Laurentian mountains is a sweet little house in the forest. Tucked between a rushing stream and deep woods, this beautiful French Canadian style home is as warm and welcoming as its owner.

The edge of the creek is a famous fishing spot where the reeds and lilypads grow thick, making wonderful lurking and hiding spots for fish and frogs. During the day the waterlilies open, perfuming the air with their delicate perfume.

The dry sound of rustling leaves in the autumn is a particular music along the lakeshore. Combined with the lapping of waves and blown long grasses it is a peaceful symphony of sounds.

"Heather of the Rocks" is a tribute to the ancient apple tree that lived in a wild field in the hills where I grew up. It still produced blossoms every year along the banks of the stream.
