From the Lakeshore Association of Artists in Montreal:
Come celebrate spring – with an art show! The Lakeshore Association of Artists (LAA) and NOVA West Island are marking 35 years of partnership with their annual spring art exhibit from April 21 to 23 at Fritz Farm community centre in Baie- D’Urfé. The exhibit will feature more than 100 artworks in different media created by more than three dozen artists who live and work on the West Island, from Lachine to Hudson. “We have been hard at work in our studios all winter, getting ready,” said Helena Scheffer, a Beaconsfield textile artist and the show’s co-convener. “This is a great chance to show our art, but also to talk about what we do. “We are thrilled to be having the spring show in person again, meeting people and talking about art.” The much-anticipated event is a bright, colourful burst of springtime inspiration, featuring paintings in oil, acrylic, watercolour, pastel and mixed media, as well as sculptures, textile art and mosaics – all of it in an exciting variety of sizes and artistic styles. Over the years, the LAA has raised over $ 1,100,000 for West Island charities. One-third of all sales from this show will be donated to NOVA West Island, a respected not-for-profit community organization whose mission is to deliver high-quality, innovative health-care services. The money will go towards services such as palliative home nursing care, programs for bereaved children and adults, personal home support and an activities program for seniors with cognitive deficits. “For 35 years, LAA artists have shared their creativity and talent with NOVA to help us care for the West Island community,” said Marie-France Juneau, NOVA’s executive director. “We are grateful for their long-term support; their works of art allow us to provide state-of-the-art care and services.” The show’s publicity features a watercolour tulip painting that will be raffled along with two other prizes. The painting has been donated by LAA member Christiane Herzog, an artist who draws inspiration from the Austrian woodlands and gardens of her youth and from her own garden here in Montreal. “I love watercolour! There is a beautiful magic to working with fluid colour and water, responding to what is happening on the paper,” Herzog said. “There is a translucence that makes the flower glow from within.” The exhibit kicks off with a vernissage on Friday April 21, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. The show is on Saturday and Sunday April 22 and 23 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It all takes place at Fritz Farm community centre, a stately two-storey heritage house set amid rambling lawns and gardens overlooking beautiful Lac-Saint-Louis. Address: 20477 Lakeshore Road, Baie-D’Urfé. For more information about the spring show, please visit the Lakeshore Artists Association website at www.artlakeshore.com
